Biography

A former clarinetist with the Atlanta Symphony, Larry Guy has performed with the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, New Jersey Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Orpheus, and for many years was the principal clarinet of the Long Island Philharmonic, Joffrey Ballet, Queens Symphony, and Lake George Opera.  He performed in many Broadway shows.

He is the author of eight textbooks for clarinetists that cover the full range of the clarinetist’s art, and has produced educational CDs for Boston Records showcasing the artistry of four virtuosos of the past:  Daniel Bonade, Ralph McLane, Mitchell Lurie, and Rosario Mazzeo.

He has presented masterclasses at the Curtis Institute of Music, Tanglewood, Northwestern University, Rice, Boston University, the University of Texas/Austin, Penn State, the University of New Mexico, and Ithaca, and has lectured at clarinet festivals in Stockholm, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Oklahoma City.  For three years he was the International Clarinet Association’s Chair of Pedagogy.

For many years Mr. Guy taught clarinet and chamber music at Vassar College, New York University, and the Pre-College Divisions of the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music.
